Great Places in Europe for a Family Getaway

Choosing the right place to take the family away can be hard. You want to take them somewhere that will be enjoyed by everyone and somewhere that will leave them with memories of a great family holiday. I’ve chosen a few places that I think My Three would love to visit in the future. I hope they provide you with a little bit of inspiration if you’re struggling to decide on your next family holiday destination.

The city of love and art is only a few hours away by plane, ferry and even the train. It is also a wonderful city to share with your family too. I would love to take My Three to Paris so that they could see The Louvre, the Effiel Tower and The Seine. Disneyland is only a short journey away too so you could combine your trip with both education and thrill-seeking.

Rome is one of the places I’d love to take boys one day. It is steeped in history that I’m sure we would all find interesting. We could all go on a tour of the city with a local guide who would show us everything there was to be seen. One place I’d have to visit is the Colosseum (it’s pretty hard to miss with it being so big) amongst other historical sites too and I’m sure James would find them fascinating too as he has recently finished learning about the Romans in school.

Our capital city is a great place to take the kids for a weekend break. There is so much for a family to do including seeing a West End Show, shopping, visiting Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London, Trafalgar Square and many many more. You could also venture slightly away from the city and visit attractions nearby including Kew Gardens and the Warner Brothers Studio Tour, where you can see how the Harry Potter films were made – this is something I have been wanting to do with the boys for ages but have never got around to booking – I really must do that for next year.

Salzburg is the birthplace of Mozart but the city has so much more to offer too especially if you visit in the lead up to Christmas. I would love to take the boys to a place like Salzburg at the magical time of year so that they could experience ice skating and Christmas markets and the possibility of a real white Christmas. We could even have a go at skiing in the Alps should the boys want to learn.

Another place that is on my travel bucket list is Iceland. I would love to be able to see the Northern Lights up close and personal and I’d love to be able to spend a few hours in a natural spa. I’m sure the boys would love to go whale watching – in fact I’d love to go whale watching too.

Are you taking your family away anytime soon?
