Five Films To Enjoy As A Family This Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner and James has already picked out his costume for Trick or Treating and his school disco. I’m not sure what other plans we (or he has) but I do know that we will be spending a few nights cuddled up on the sofa with snacks and treats watching a few of our favourite spooky films.

If you’re looking for a movie suitable for all the family to enjoy together this Halloween here are a few of My Three and Me’s favourites.

Hotel Transylvania 1 – 3

“I don’t say Blah, Blah, Blah…” Adam Sandler is my favourite vampire by far and this trio of movies is a must for any Halloween lover.

  • Hotel Transylvania – Dracula’s lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up and no humans are allowed. One special weekend, Dracula invites all his best friends –=- Frankenstein and his wife, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, the Werewolf family, and more to celebrate his beloved daughter Mavis’ 118th birthday. For Dracula catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem but the party really starts when a human stumbles into the hotel.
  • Hotel Transylvania 2 – In the sequel movie everything is changing at Hotel Transylvania. Dracula is worried that his half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn’t showing signs of becoming a vampire. So while Mavis is on vacation he enlists his monster friends to put Dennis through a “monster-in-training” boot camp.
  • Hotel Transylvania 3 – In the most recent edition of the movie franchise the family embark on a holiday adventure on a luxury monster cruise ship. It’s smooth sailing the monsters as they indulge in all of the onboard fun the cruise has to offer. But they hit rocky waters when Mavis realizes that Dracula has fallen for the mysterious captain of the ship, Ericka, who hides a dangerous secret that could sink their plans for a dream holiday.
Goosebumps 1 and 2

I’m not a fan of anything scary but as a teenager, I used to read all the Point Horror and Goosebumps books. So when they made films from the books I had to give them a try. James loves the films and thinks it’s hilarious when I cringe when Slappy the dummy comes on the screen.

  • GooseBumps – After moving to a small town, Zach Cooper finds a silver lining when he meets next door neighbour Hannah, the daughter of bestselling Goosebumps series author R.L. Stine. Stine is very mysterious and a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and he protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their manuscripts. When the monsters are accidentally unleashed and begin to terrorize the town, it’s up to Stine, Zach and Hannah to get them back in their books where they belong.
  • Goosebumps 2 – Be careful what you wish for. With their after school junk business, best friends Sonny and Sam hope to find treasure in other people’s trash. But when cleaning out the old Stine house, they open a locked book that frees a supernatural nightmare – Slappy! Now, with the help of Sonny’s sister Sarah, they’re in a race against time to get the sinister dummy and all the creatures he’s brought to life back into the pages before he unleashes total pandemonium.
Casper

Who doesn’t love Casper the friendly ghost? A comedy in which a young girl befriends a ghost. Her dad a ghost therapist has been hired by the greedy owner of Whipstaff Manor to exorcise the house of its spirits, the friendly Casper and his crazy uncles Stretch, Stinkie and Fatso. While Kat forms a friendship with Casper his three uncles create havoc as they do everything in their power to prevent their eviction.

Hocus Pocus

Halloween just isn’t Halloween without watching Hocus Pocus. I loved it when I was younger and I still love it now. I even made James watch it with me a few weeks ago and even he enjoyed it. Three hundred years after they were sentenced to death in Salem, a trio of witches return to gain their revenge. Terrorising the town’s trick-or-treaters on Halloween, riding on vacuum cleaners instead of broomsticks, the only thing that can stop them is an immortal black cat – who is in fact, a boy who was turned into a cat by the witches on the day of their original execution.

The Addams Family

All together now… “They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky, they’re altogether ooky, The Addams Family”. If you don’t sing along to the theme tune you’re not really a fan are you? I love the Addams Family and can’t wait to see the new animated film this Halloween with the boys. The family of oddballs welcome home Uncle Fester who has been lost for years but not all is as it seems with him… and if you like this film make sure you watch the sequel too Addams Family Values.
