Ways You Could Improve The Exterior of Your Home

There’s definitely a chill in the air and the days are getting shorter but we have been really lucky that the weather is still rather mild for this time of year and it is the perfect time to sort all those outside jobs that didn’t get sorted in the summer. I don’t know about you but I like to try to get my house and garden in some sort of order before the darker nights and colder weather settles in and I have a list as long as my arm to get through and I’ve been putting many of them off all year long.

Have you got a list of jobs that you are putting off until next year? or perhaps you are wanting to move over the winter months? whatever your reason for wanting to improve the appearance of your home there’s a few things you could do outside whilst it’s still nice including the following:

Update / fix outer walls

If your exterior walls are looking a little worse for wear there are a few things you can do to restore them back to their former glory. If there are gaps in your bricks it may be worthwhile having them re-pointed. If left water may be able to get in between your bricks and in turn cause lots of trouble for you and even make your home damp. You may want to paint your house or give it an exterior wall coating. An exterior coating will last longer than just regular paint and is designed to not chip, peel or crack so will definitely save you money in the long run. You can also get All Weather Coating’s exterior wall coatings in many different colours so you can make your home exactly as you’d like it.

Add a small extension

If you have little to no space in your home adding a small porch or conservatory may be a good move as it will give you extra space that would not only be useful but could add value to your home too. Extra space could mean that you get the dining room you’ve always wanted or a playroom for the kids. Personally if we were to extend (and it is a thought for the future) It would be a massive job as I’d like a two-story extension that comprised a garage, extra bedroom (with en-suite), utility room, downstairs toilet, porch and at some point a conservatory – if you have the winning lottery numbers please feel free to share as I think I may need them.

Landscape the garden

If your garden is in need of a makeover adding a patio area would make a lovely addition to any space. Although it won’t get much use over winter it would be ready and waiting for you to use when the nicer weather comes back around. Getting your borders in shape would make your jobs easier in the springtime – make sure all weeds are removed and that your lawn is given one last cut before the first frosts of winter arrives.

Replace fencing

If your garden fencing is looking a little worse for wear it might be time to replace it although if you can make it last until the spring with a treatment now is the time to apply it. Any other wooden items in the garden may need treating too so that they are protected from the colder, wetter weather.

Are you planning to sort your exteriors out before winter arrives?
