Ways To Update Your Wardrobe This Summer For Less

Summer is still a few months away but there is no better time than now to start planning your summer wardrobe. After the last year we’ve had and what with all the restrictions starting to be lifted it’s time to make plans for the months ahead. Whether you’re planning to stay home, go on holiday (at home or abroad) or enjoy some nights out with friends you want to look your best.

The last year has been tight on everyone’s purses and I don’t know about you but we have cut down on many things especially luxury items for ourselves and we’re still feeling the pinch now. That being said there are a few things you can do to make your money go further and still update your wardrobe these include:

Buy staple items

If you are shopping on a budget this summer, buy items that are sure to be in fashion for years to come. Shorts, vests, and t-shirts never go out of fashion and it’s a good idea to keep a few in the back of your wardrobe for not only those rogue warmer days we get in spring and autumn but for those lovely lazy days on the beach and in the garden too.

Mix and match

If you like to wear co-ord sets why not consider buying something that can be mixed and matched to make more than one outfit. If you’re planning on a holiday this summer but have limited space in your suitcase this is the perfect solution. A loungewear set is great for travelling in and you can wear the items together or separately on other days. A hoody is a great item to wear on a cooler evening with a pair of jeans or leggings. The same can be said for a co-ord short set too. They look great as a matching set but can both be worn separately too. Tshirt dresses are set to be a popular item this year and it’s easy to see why. They’re perfect for popping on over a swimsuit if you’re heading to the pool, teamed with leggings or tights on a cooler day or worn oversized with your favourite jeans. At the minute I love this Guns N’ Roses t-shirt dress from femmeluxe.

Multi buy items

Many shops offer multibuys on some of their popular clothing items. I always stock up on vests, spaghetti string vests and other items such as pants and socks when needed. Although you won’t save lots of money this way you will save a couple of pounds here and there.

Keep and wear your favourite items

Just because the summer is over doesn’t mean that you need to get rid of your outfits or shoes. I’ve had the same pair of sandals for the last 10 years and they’re just as good now as they were when I bought them. They’ve seen many trips to the beach and even made the trip to New York with me a couple of years ago. The same thing goes for sunhats and sunglasses. I bought a pair of sunglasses a few years back for a matter of pounds and they’re still going strong. They’re perfect for days in the garden and long car journeys on sunny days.

Fix/update what you already have

If your favourite T-shirt or pair of jeans has a hole in them, don’t throw them away. You can easily fix them with some thread or fabric glue and some embroidered patches or two. The best thing about these patches is they don’t even have to be used to cover a hole, you can simply add them to any garment or fabric you want – they look great on a denim jacket or satchel to make a statement and show your unique style.

Shop around

There are bargains to be had everywhere if you know where to look. Once you have your dates set for an outing keep an eye on the sales and I’m sure you will find some absolute steals. Bank holidays are always a good time to shop. If you’re not bothered about keeping up with trends, buy in end-of-season sales and put away for the following summer/winter, as this is when items are reduced the most. If you are buying for children, remember to buy a size bigger so that they won’t have grown out of the items.

Buy second hand

If you are really struggling to shop on a budget, consider buying secondhand. Charity shops and eBay are great places to grab yourself a bargain. Facebook selling pages are also a great place to buy locally, and you’d be surprised what there is on offer.

Do you have any tips to help others shop on a budget for their summer wardrobe?
