A person wearing jeans and a striped shirt is kneeling on a patterned rug, folding and organising clothes—one stack of trousers, another of shirts. This simple routine offers time-saving tips for the morning school run by keeping outfits ready to grab.

Time Saving Tips for the Morning School Run

Mums, we’re here to help you. I have teamed up with a boarding school in Surrey to share these time-saving tips for the morning school run. Face it, we could all do with those 10 minutes of extra sleep.

Weekends are for lounging and laundry

To get ahead and avoid running around the house with bits and pieces that need ironing last minute, get your boards out on a Saturday or Sunday. This will save any unnecessary faffing around and help to be all the speedier.

Soaks in the evening

You will save so much time by getting in the shower and bathing the kids before bed. No queue for the bathroom means that everyone’s a winner and you can beat those shutting school gates too.

A school bag station

There is nothing more annoying than being ready to get out of the door and having to run back up the stairs for something you have left behind. Worse, having to turn around halfway to school. Having a fixed spot in your hallway or patio for the kids’ bags, coats, lunch boxes and whatever else can help you to avoid leaving anything behind.

Take no prisoners

Have a thermometer ready for any sickies. This will help you to see if your child is really ill or if they’re just trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

Simple breakfast choices

Simple choices like muesli or Nutella on toast will make for a quick morning breakfast. Or if you’re feeling a little fancy, make the time to prep the night before by arranging things like your overnight oats. This will definitely help to speed up the process.

Get a timer

Having a timer can help to make sure that you’re on track and won’t be late for school. If you realise that you’re behind schedule, this will help you to make decisions to speed things up like calling for hot dinners instead.
