The Benefits of Physical Activities for Toddlers

In many nurseries and preschools, there will be time for children to explore physical activities. These will give your child the chance to try out lots of different sports, team-based exercises and other fun sociable activities to help your child find a love for the outdoors.

There are many benefits to having a regular schedule including physical activities for your child. Most of them are for the benefit of your child’s general health; they can also help your child find their first interests, explore their academic prowess and become more diligent problem solvers. Here are some of the biggest benefits you will find your child will appreciate the most.

Improved health

Even at toddler age, your child is going to need to see the health benefits of exercise. Many independent nurseries will facilitate time for toddlers to get out and about and exercise regularly.

The first thing is of course the physical benefits. Your child is learning about how a raised heartbeat and continuous movement will improve their physical health. Muscles will grow stronger and your child’s general health, from the lungs to their heart, will improve.

Mentally it also means your child is learning how to manage their feelings. Physical activity is often a great improvement to anyone’s mental health and it will show your child how raised endorphins and adrenaline will help with their mood.

Improved academic performance

Getting involved in physical activities improves a child’s attention – whether that is in the classroom or when playing a sport. It helps your child learn to know where their attention should be placed in particular situations. It also improves a child’s memory through kinesthetic learning – a more interactive way of learning – that helps your child when they return to the classroom or play area.

Over an extended period of time, your child is improving a lot of skills that will help them with their academic performance in the future. If your child starts from nursery age it will help them learn to be more well-rounded individuals.

Helps young children find their first interests

While at toddler age your child is figuring out what they enjoy and will grow over the course of their lifetimes, physical activities will help your child find their first key interests. They tend to be sports or games your child can enjoy with their friends and it will make them feel happy. Swimming, athletics and gymnastics are good examples of activities children can try out at a young age and explore well into adulthood.
