How To Instil So Much Confidence In Your Kids – Every Single Day
Confidence isn’t something that people are born with. Sure, some people may have a few more happy chemicals in their brains than others, but confidence is sculpted. Children become confident in themselves by learning, absorbing, and growing. It’s your job as a parent to help shape the world in front of them. It’s also your job to shape how they see themselves. From the simplest everyday moments to more significant events, it’s up to you to provide the tools for them to achieve unshakable self-belief. Children thrive when they feel heard and feel capable.
If you are able to encourage your children and provide small wins along the way, they will begin to trust themselves whenever they do anything. As parents, we must show up consistently and provide emotional stability. Whether we are talking about sports or even just the school run, consistency in this department matters. During the school holidays and the winter days, structure can slip and insecurities can resurface. You must do whatever you can to create opportunities for them to build up self-esteem and confidence. Even a few mindset shifts can put them in the right direction. In this post, we are going to talk about a few ways you can instil so much confidence in your kids. Let’s get started:
Validate Their Voice
If your kids feel as though their words matter, they will become more confident immediately. Allow them to speak, especially if they are hesitant or unsure. Look them in the eye and listen to them without rushing to correct them right away. If they are allowed to finish their thoughts, they will feel more respected and will feel a lot more valuable.
Don’t Just Celebrate Their Achievements
It’s good to cheer for somebody when they are winning, but this shouldn’t be the only time. Their belief in themselves will deepen when you notice that they are trying their hardest. Point out to them that they are working hard and that they did not give up. They will know that their self-worth isn’t just based on victories.
Allow Them To Leave Their Comfort Zone
Being in a comfort zone is, naturally, very comfortable. Confidence is often nervousness followed by pride. If you give your child the chance to try new things, they will feel so much better afterwards. You could enrol them in activities where they learn to fail and go again. Things like gymnastics class for your child or soccer practice can teach them about repetition and progress. These experiences can feel harsh at first, but they will build confidence over time.
Model Self-Belief For Them To See
Your child is always watching what you say and do. Even when you think they are miles away, they are subconsciously picking up your traits. Speak kindly about yourself as it will teach them to do the same. If you believe in your abilities, they will see it as a natural part of life. They will mirror your confidence.
