I love music, I listen to it whenever I can, in the garden, when working, when exercising, on the school runs, in the shower, whenever and wherever I possibly can. It is my calming mechanism and it helps pick me up when I’m feeling anxious or worried. I also write about music often with my monthly playlists and you may have read some of our Tracks of My Years blogging series, where each week a different blogger takes us down the tracks that have meant the most to them through their lives.
I was tagged by Coffee, Cake, Kids to write about my playlist. If you’ve seen any of my monthly playlists or my very own Tracks of My Years post you will know just how varied and eclectic my taste in music really is. There is so much variety there even I’m not surprised by some of the songs that get thrown up every now and again. I used to be embarrassed by some of the music I listened too as it really is that cheesy but you know what – I honestly couldn’t care less what people think anymore. There is a total of 1034 songs on my playlist so who knows what gems are going to be shared.
I’m not a big fan of modern music – I sound so old saying that but it’s true yes there are a few bits that I like but the majority is just noise and if you were to ask me what songs have been number one in the last few weeks/months/year I honestly wouldn’t have a clue – if my life depended on it I would be in serious trouble!!!
The rules are very simple
- Thank the person who nominated you for this tag and link to their blog.
- Shuffle your entire music library or a very large playlist (no matter how old songs the songs are)
- Talk about the FIRST FIFTEEN songs that come up (anything like why they are there, if they signify something, any story, why you like them, etc.)
- Mention the songs as well as the artists.
- Tag about 7 people and please let them know
My Shuffled Playlist
Enrique Iglesias – Escape
This song reminds me of carefree summer days and nights as a teenager. Hanging out with friends, finding our feet after leaving school and being halfway in our A levels and getting ready to head off to Uni. I still love this song now.
These Hard Times – Matchbox Twenty
I am a huge Matchbox Twenty fan and I love this song. Rob Thomas has a voice that just makes me feel every word he sings. This isn’t my favourite Matchbox Twenty song ( I have so many though) but it definitely up in my top 10.
Sometimes – Erasure
My mum was a big Erasure fan so when we were younger their songs were always played in our house and the band and their songs kind of grew on me. I am now the owner of their Greatest Hits album and I won’t lie it’s brilliant.
Slight Return – The Bluetones
When I was at school my taste is music was so diverse I was most definitely a fan of boybands and ballads but when I started listening to The Bluetones, Sleeper. The Lightning Seeds and Ocean Colour Scene people were shocked.
If I can Dream – Elvis Presley
Another song I love thanks to my mum. The lyrics in this song just resonate so much with me – wanting there to be better things in the world – that not everything everywhere is so bad and it just sings of hope and longing for a peaceful world – we can only hope this can be achieved one day.
Boys of Summer – DJ Sammy
Another song from my clubbing days – it was most definitely one of my summer anthems and it still is. Barbeques in the garden or trips to the beach this song isn’t far away from my playlist.
The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight – REM
My dad was the REM fan in our house and he always used to sing this song in the garage whilst working away. I love it and can often be heard singing very loud when it’s on.
Never Enough – The Greatest Showman
I am not surprised that a song from The Greatest Showman came up in my playlist. I love the film and the soundtrack and this is most definitely one of my favourite tracks on it.
Live and Let Die – Guns N’ Roses
Another song that my dad loved and now the boys love. We can always be heard singing to anything Guns n’ Roses when it comes on the radio.
You’re My Best Friend – Queen
I’ve always been a huge Queen fan, but it wasn’t until a few years ago when I really took note and listened to the lyrics of some of their songs. This pretty much sums up Matthew to me. He is literally my best friend and he makes my life complete – we really have been together a long time, it’s as if this song was written about us.
The Story – Sara Ramirez
I am a massive Grey’s Anatomy fan, I never miss an episode. I was really late to the party though and only started watching about 5 years ago. This song featured in an espisode that ws all musical and I admit I cried a lot the first time I saw it. Defintiely a song that will be making it’s way on to my wedding playlist that’s for sure.
Forever Young – Rod Stewart
I love Rod’s voice and this song is just everything I ever want for my boys. It’s not my favourite song of his but it’s definitely one that resonates with my outlook on life and I hope my boys know that.
Seven Wonders – Fleetwood Mac
Who doesn’t love a bit of Fleetwood Mac? I can’t tell you what it is about this song that I love but it is one that is played often and sounds great when loud. Another band I love thanks to my parents.
Glitter In The Air – Pink
Pink is the one artist I would love to see live – she really needs to get her UK and European tour dates announced so that we can book tickets. She is just amazing as are all her songs.
I hope you have enjoyed listening too and reading about the first 15 songs on my music playlist. I’m surprised with some of the songs that came out but even more so that some of my cheesier tunes didn’t make an appearence. Maybe it’s time for a Tracks of My Years the cheesy tunes part II post.
