If you’re looking at booking a last minute holiday there are plenty of Holiday Gems to be found and you could grab yourself a right bargain if you’re not fussy or can be flexible with your departure date, destination or airport.
I love to read and never go away without my Kindle and iPad that way I can make sure I always have plenty to keep me occupied whilst travelling or relaxing. If you have a long journey ahead of you or plan to spend most of your time on the beach or by the pool then I really would recommend taking a book or two with you or like me a Kindle or tablet so that you can have plenty of books on hand and if like myself you’re a quick reader you may need a few titles to keep you busy. Here are a few of the books I love and would highly recommend you read whilst on holiday. If you’re a chick lit lover you will love my recommendations, if you’re not then maybe give them a try, they might just surprise you.
The Driven Trilogy and Aced by K.Bromberg
I would say that Driven, Fueled and Crashed are probably my favourite books of all time and Kristy is one of my favourite authors. I have recommended these books to all of my girl friends and all who have read them loved them just as much as I have. If you’re a fan of 50 Shades of Grey these are 100 million times better in my opinion (and I enjoyed 50 Shades). I was hooked from page one of Driven and fell in love with both Colton and Rylee and their story. Colton is an arrogant race car driver who oozes sex appeal and has women throwing themselves at him. No one had ever turned him down that was until he met Rylee – the night they met changed everything for the both of them. I can’t tell you too much as you need to enjoy the ride for yourself but I promise you, you will not be disappointed with these books. There is also Raced which you can read once you have read the first three books as this book is some of the chapters through Colton’s point of view. Kirsty is an amazing writer and she has also written four stand alone novels that feature some of the characters we meet throughout the three books. If you’re a fan of Matchbox Twenty and Pink you will love the songs cleverly entwined and mentioned throughout the novels and if there are any songs you don’t know I recommend Googling them and having a listen as they’re some great songs that I didn’t know but now love and listen to regularly. I laughed, I cried, I didn’t want the books to end. I almost wish I could rediscover these books for the first time again – they’re really that good.
The Spinster Series by Becky Monson
I have recently finished the first instalment of this series and I found it hard to put down. I am currently half way through the second book and loving how events are transpiring so far, I can’t wait to read the third book. If you like Bridget Jones you will love Julia Dorning. Julia is a self-proclaimed Spinster. She lives at home in her parent’s basement flat, has a cat and has worked the same job for 10 years. She has a hard time adapting to change and is quite happy with settling with her lot in life until Jared Moody starts working at her company. Suddenly her Spinster way of life is given food for thought and her life starts to change for the better. You will love some of the things Julia says to her best friend Brown and Sister Anna and I found it so hard not to laugh out loud at some of her Julia-isms – they are just amazing.
50 Shades of Grey Trilogy & Grey by E L James
These books have been around for a few years now and I think almost anyone who wants to read them will have done so by now. But if you haven’t I think you should. But please reserve any judgement you have of the story until you have read them all. I almost didn’t start the second book as didn’t like the way I thought the book was turning out but by then end of the third book I really loved how the story ended. If you’ve read the first three books then if you’ve not read it already I would highly recommend Grey. I love it more 50 Shades of Grey if I’m honest. Yes, it’s the same story just told from Christian’s point of view but once you actually read the story you see that some of the things he does/say aren’t as bad as they seemed in the first book. I can’t wait for 50 Shades Darker from Christian’s POV to come out so I can read more from him.
The Heart Trilogy by Audrina Lane
These books were recommended by my longest friend Cat last summer. She knows I love my 80’s chick flicks and music and said that these would be right up my street – she wasn’t wrong they mention lots of both and the soundtrack to these books is perfect if you like George Micheal, Wham etc. The Heart Trilogy is made up of three books – Where Did My Heart Go, Unbreak My Heart and Closer to Heart. The stores start with Stephanie letting her daughter Charlie read her diaries from the time she was first in love and suffered her first heartbreak. The book cleverly interweaves the past with the present and we see both stories that eventually lead up to Stephanie meeting the now man who stole and then broke her heart as a teenager. Audrina has since released two more books that follow one of the main characters in this books. I haven’t read them yet but they are on my to read list as I can’t wait to read Felicity’s story.
Above I have given you a list of around 30 books just by four different authors. If you’re a fan of chick lit I would also recommend all of the Bridget Jones’ Diaries by Helen Fielding, anything by Milly Johnson – I have recently read The Birds and The Bees and It’s Raining Men, both are easy reads and have quite enjoyable stories and Holding by Graham Norton.
