Mijas – A Great Place for a Family Holiday

Choosing the perfect destination for your next family holiday can be a hard decision to make. If you can only take one holiday a year or perhaps even less than that (we went on holiday to New York last summer but before that, it had been at least five years if not more ) you might put more thought into your decision – you definitely want somewhere that everyone will love, perhaps somewhere that is affordable and has lots to offer but also somewhere that you can relax too.

One place you might decide to go on holiday is Mijas. Mijas is a town and municipality located in the Costa del Sol region of southern Spain. It has a good transportation network and is easily reachable by public bus service or car and Malaga airport is only 26km away.

Reasons to make Mijas your next family holiday destination include:

The weather

Mijas sees up to 320 days of sunshine a year. This makes it a great place for a family holiday or even a short winter break if you are wanting to escape the miserable weather back home. The summer months are hot as temperatures rarely fall below 30°C. Some people might find that visiting in May/June and September/October are better as the temperatures are not too hot

Mijas usually has very mild winters and sees daily highs of around 20°C but the evenings can be cooler so make sure you have a jumper or cardigan with you should you wish to see the sights on an evening.

It’s family friendly accommodation

As you can imagine Mijas is home to lots of holiday accommodation. It is popular with visitors young and old. You could choose to stay in one of its many hotels or you could opt to look at staying at one of the many holiday Villas in Mijas that Clickstay has to offer instead.

If you have a large family a villa might be the better choice for you instead of staying in a hotel especially if you have friends or other family members coming on holiday with you. It would mean that you are all in the same place and can spend as much time together or apart as you’d like. Many villas have private pools and gardens – this is great if you’d prefer to spend time on your own as a family without having to share a communal area with strangers.

Lots of attractions

Mijas has lots of things to see and do if you want to explore the local area including:

• A chocolate factory – Not just any chocolate factory but one of the smallest in the world. Take a visit to Mayan Monkey where you can see chocolate and ice cream being made, take part in a workshop and make your own chocolate bars (you might need to book this so check with them), learn about chocolate in their museum and enjoy a sweet treat on one of their terraces.
• A water park – If your family love to spend their days at a water park Aquamijas is the place to go. It has slides, rides and pools for all members of the family. They offer areas where you can relax out of the water too if you’d prefer and have refreshments available onsite.
• A miniature museum – If you’re looking for a cheap date out why not take your family to visit the Mijas Miniatures Museum. The museum is located near to the Virgen de la Peña grotto (which is one of the most visited spots in Mijas Pueblo) so you could visit both on the same day. Tickets cost just 3 euros for adults, 2 euros for pensioners and 1.50 euros for children up to 14 years of age. 
• Beautiful beaches – just a short drive away is the beautiful Spanish coastline, home to a number of beautiful beaches. There’s a beach for everyone including naturists (it is well signposted but make sure you check before you visit the coast if you want to avoid/go to this beach) Some beaches are busier than others and some are great for scuba diving and snorkelling.
• Lots of golf courses – Many people visit Mijas to play golf. The area boasts 26 courses. It’s three best-known courses are La Cala, Golf Torrequebrada and Calanova Golf Club.
