Choosing bridal lingerie for your wedding day can be a minefield. I didn’t realise there was so much choice until I looked – but then that is the central story to anything related to our wedding if I’m honest. Don’t get me wrong choice is great unless you’re like me of course – someone who hates making decisions.
I’m happy to say that we are 90% ready for our big day, other than a few things to buy or prep just before we go away we are sorted and I am so glad about that.
The style of your wedding dress dictates the lingerie that you can get away with wearing, some dresses even have built-in bras so you don’t need to wear anything else but if you are planning to wear your own I urge you to think carefully about the style especially when you are going for later dress fittings. Make sure any underwear you pick is comfortable to wear and easy to remove – if you have a big dress and you are desperate for the toilet the last thing you need is fiddly underwear getting in the way.
A few things you should consider include:
I’ve mentioned already about choosing lingerie that is comfortable. I think this is one of the most important considerations you should make, after all, you are probably going to be wearing your dress the best part of the day and night. If you are looking at bras for your big day there are many different styles to choose from. Ensure you have been measured before purchasing your bra so that you get the correct fit. You can measure at home or go to a store like M & S or Debenhams who have professional fitters who will ensure you get the correct fit.
Straps or not
If your dress is strapless it goes without saying that you will need a strapless bra to wear with your dress. There are lots of different types of strapless bras on the market so there is sure to be a bra to suit your shape, bra size and dress fitting. I have chosen the Refined Glamour Ultimate Strapless Bra from Wonderbra to wear under my dress as it is quite structured and sturdy so will hold my more than ample bosom in place.
The right knickers
Are you planning on wearing matching pants and bra? If you don’t need a bra with your dress what type of pants will you wear, a thong, high leg, shorts, lacey, plain? these are all things you need to think about. Nobody wants a VPL (visible panty line) on their big day, so make sure the knickers you wear are comfortable and can’t be seen through your dress. If your dress is white, champagne or ivory in colour make sure your pants are too. It may be worth investing in a slip or petticoat if your dress is made from a thin material to give yourself and your modesty an extra layer of protection.
Once the big day is over, it’s time for bed as your first night as husband and wife. You may want to mark the occasion with some bridal nightwear. From a sexy negligee or pyjama set to a beautiful night dress or dressing gown, there’s definitely something to spice up your wedding night or something to wear on your honeymoon instead.
