How to Set Realistic Body Goals

These days, it is very hard for people to set realistic body goals and unrealistic beauty standards can have a serious impact on mental health and self-esteem. People often set themselves goals to lose weight and look more attractive, but you need to be very careful when setting these goals and avoid comparing yourself to celebrities and photoshopped images.

Today’s Beauty Standards

The trending body goals of today’s day and age is an hourglass figure, high cheekbones, plump eyes and almost cat-like eyes. It is important to note that this is a homogenized version of beauty and one that is often only attainable through surgery and/or photoshop. If you decide to have cosmetic surgery, it is important to take the time to ensure that it is the right choice for you and you are not doing it to look like someone else (especially if it is a photoshopped version of someone else).

The Rise of Body Dysmorphia

These days, these idealized versions of beauty and heavily edited images seen all over the internet have made body dysmorphia a very serious and common problem. It is even something that celebrities can suffer from with their images being edited and making them feel insecure. In a time when paparazzi shots, magazines and even social media have heavily edited images, it is understandable that people look at these pictures and do not feel their best.

Setting Realistic Goals

This is why it is so important for people to avoid comparing themselves to others and to understand that the images that you see are not a real version of beauty

and are often unattainable. Instead, you should focus on yourself and try to set realistic body goals. Often, these goals can be achieved by leading a healthy lifestyle which will include regular exercise, a healthy diet and getting enough sleep.

Cosmetic Surgery Can Be a Good Option

If the change that you want requires cosmetic surgery then this can be a good option as long as you are doing it for yourself. Cosmetic procedures can be simple yet effective ways to improve your appearance and to give yourself a confidence boost. Self-confidence is incredibly important for your mental health and wellbeing, so sometimes cosmetic surgery can be an option to look into and a life-changing decision.

Setting body goals and taking steps to improve yourself is always positive, but you need to be careful when setting these goals and avoid comparing yourself to others, particularly with today’s unrealistic beauty standards.
