January Blues? Inject a little more colour into your home!

January…dark mornings, dark nights, we’re all feeling a little heavier than what we did in November and now the tree and decorations have gone, everything just feels a little drab. Rather like a lead balloon…!

So, it’s now my mission this month to inject a little colour into my home! We can all get a little too comfortable with our magnolia coloured walls and beige carpets, so this year we’re aiming for big and bold colours, so join me in this article for some big tips, bold ideas and a little inspiration if you’re still on the fence!

The skirting boards

The what? I hear you cry! Yes, you read that right: the skirting boards. Every home has them, they’re what protect our walls from the furniture and make our new laminate flooring look expertly finished. But, if yours are anything like mine, then they’ve probably seen better days! If you think yours are beyond repair, then head to skirtingsrus.co.uk for some replacements! In the meantime, giving them a lick of paint will work wonders – and if you’re joining me on this colour journey, then go for something bright and truly outstanding! A warm, sunshine yellow, or a deep, thought-provoking red – the choice is yours!

Your kitchen cabinets

A really bold choice but definitely a conversation starter! Painting your kitchen cabinets is a wonderful idea if you’re looking for colour this New Year. We all know how expensive a new kitchen can be and with so many of us living on a budget, it’s just not affordable right now. But you’ll be amazed what you can achieve with a little paint brush and a little more patience.

If you don’t fancy painting the cabinets, then why not change the door handles and knobs for something a little more colourful? Head to your local DIY shop or even to places like Etsy to see what’s on offer.

Photo frames

Something a little subtler and a little less permanent! Who doesn’t love having photographs of their family, loved ones and friends all over the place? My home has been compared to an art gallery on more than one occasion! But if you’re bored with all those shabby-chic frames or boring white or black frames then why not take things up a gear?

Get yourself a little pot of paint and a small brush and make your favourite photograph pop! You could even create a rainbow effect around your home. Or colour coordinate your frames in each room. Yellow for the hallway, blue for the landing, pink for the living room – the possibilities are endless!

The table and chairs

Get rid of that tablecloth right now, and get out those paints. Here you can really let your creativity soar. Fancy a rainbow coloured table? Why not! Or why not a bright post box red to make your dining room/kitchen really pop? And as for the chairs, why not choose a contrasting colour like white? Or even a glossy black? Embrace your New Year and fill it with colour.
