Ways To Create A Timeless Home Interior
Do you look at other people’s homes and get envious? Sometimes when I see that a friend has newly decorated a room in their home in this year’s must-have decor or bought a new sofa I wish it was us. But then I have a reality check and realise we don’t actually need any new furniture and the room we gave a fresh lick of paint isn’t in need of a new one anytime soon. Plus it can be both time consuming and expensive trying to keep up with the latest trends and it’s certainly not something we could afford to do.
If you are thinking of decorating a room in your home and want to give it a look that will last a long time there are things you can do to create a timeless look and one that will stand the test of time. These include
Choosing the right colours
When it comes to decorating your room make sure you choose colours that are light and neutral, as much as you love the bright bold colours they soon go out of fashion and will need replacing sooner whereas a light colour can be repainted regularly and can be touched up as and when needed.
Choose a flooring that will last
Just like the decorating having a floor covering that will stand the test of time is essential for making your interiors timeless. If a carpet is your flooring of choice choose a carpet that is of a single colour and one that will complement your decorating. Perhaps you might choose a solid wood flooring instead. Although not the cheapest flooring option wood flooring is available in many different colours, styles and varieties. It will last a long time and will look great with light neutral wall colours.
Add furniture
When the time is right to buy new furniture buy items that will last. Sometimes it is worth looking at antique or vintage items as these items are often better built and have already proved that they can stand the test of time. When looking to buy a sofa or suite for your living room you might want to think about a leather suite or a natural coloured fabric one as bright bold, odd-shaped chairs and sofas soon go out of fashion.
Declutter
Everyone should declutter their homes at least once a year. It’s good to get rid of all the things you no longer want or need. I try to do this just before Christmas (especially in the living room) to make room for the tree and decorations to be put up and for the new gifts everyone receives. Having a clutter-free room will make your home feel bigger and more relaxed. Another tip is to only buy things that you really like when it comes to ornaments, prints and accessories for your home. Many of these items end up in landfill when trends end which is a waste of money and has a long-lasting impact on the environment.
