Reasons To Design Your Own Blog Logo
A few years ago My Three and Me had a massive overhaul. When I first started this blog it was known as Here Comes Trouble and although it featured all three boys it centred heavily around our tiny tornado James – who was a lot of trouble as a toddler. A few years down the line and the direction of the blog took a turn I knew I wanted a change and we changed everything from the layout and header to the theme colours and even our name and social media channels – My Three and Me was born.
Fast Forward a few years (we’ve been here for 9 in total) and I am pretty happy with where my blog is and still love my header and theme but that doesn’t stop me from tweaking it every now and again.. I love writing so much that I am in the middle of starting a new blog called Life of a Fisherman’s Wife. It is still very much under construction as there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes but it will be live very soon.
At the minute I am currently working on the new blog’s pages and categories. One thing I do have let to sort is the new blog header and logo. I’m not sure why I have left this so long but I guess there is just so much to consider that I want to make sure it is exactly how I want it before committing.
If you are planning to give your blog logo an overhaul there are a few things you might want to think about. These include:
Ideas
Take some time to think about how you want your logo to look. You could use a search engine such as Google to see how other logos look. This will give you an idea of how to design your own logo in terms of things that work well and those that don’t too.
Time
As you are doing all the work you can save time as you don’t have to spend time going back and forth with a designer. If you’re in a rush to have your new logo ready you can focus all your spare time in making sure it is done for when you want/need it.
Price
You could pay someone to make your blog header and logo. In all honesty, this is probably something I will probably do as I’m not very good when it comes to the creative side of life in anything. But before I commit to calling in the professionals I always like to have a go myself – you never know how good something will be until you try right? and for someone who is creative then there is no reason why you can’t make your own. If you are short on funds designing your own logo would save you some money. You use a site that offers fonts free of charge and one that is an alternative to Font Squirrel.
Design
Designing your logo is really important. take the time to think about what it needs and how it will look to your followers. Will your new logo just be your name, will it have an image if so you might want to have a little play around to see how easy the elements fit together.
Clarity
Making sure your logo is clear and readable is important – you want your followers to know that it is you straight away. Don’t make your logo to messy or busy. Something that is clear and concise would be perfect. My current logo is a black and white silhouette of the three boys and our dogs. For my new site, I am unsure if to keep the same kind of design (black and white silhouette) or if to go for something completely different. I suppose only time will tell as that is my next big job.
