Your bedroom is supposed to be your sanctuary. It’s where you go to unwind, to relax, and it’s where you look for peace and tranquility at the end of a very long day. The problem often arises in the bedroom when it’s full of clutter. Clutter occupies up the space, it disrupts all of the calm that you’re looking for, and it makes quality sleep and relaxation very difficult to achieve. They say that a busy desk leads to a busy mind, while the same can be said for your bedroom. Cluttered bedrooms can impact your mental health, and it’s not just because it’s undesirable to look at.
Clutter is a source of stress and it leads you to feeling overwhelmed and anxious because you know at some point you’re going to have to clear that clutter up.This can all make relaxing and sleep very difficult to achieve. This is why maximizing your bedroom storage is so important to ensuring that you have clarity and better mental health. It’s not just about cleaning up your room, but it’s about improving your mindset. It’s about utilizing those Ottoman beds that you invested in and using the storage spaces underneath rather than scattering your things on the floor. It’s about looking at your closet and seeing where you can maximize your wall space with shelving.
Understanding how you can improve your bedroom storage is going to really help you to understand how you can clear your mind. So with that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the best ways that you can maximise your bedroom storage for better comfort.
- Go under the bed first. We already mentioned Ottoman beds, and if you don’t have one, it’s a good time to invest in one. As your bed is the thing in the room that takes up the most floor space, it makes good sense to try and utilize the storage space within it or underneath it. Ottoman beds are a great option because you can lift the bed up and reveal the area underneath, even if under the bed is. You can’t see it all the time, which doesn’t contribute to poor mental health.
- Get rid of the bedside table. The traditional bedside tables feel really convenient. You can add a light, you have space to charge your phone, and there’s somewhere you can leave your glasses or your teeth, depending on how old you are. The problem is, that they consume valuable floor space in your bedroom, and they don’t offer you very much in the way of storage. Replacing it with a chest of drawers or using a floating shelf as a replacement for a bedside table. It’s a great way to maximize your storage because you get that floor space back. A chest of drawers doesn’t give you the floor space back, but it does give you more drawer space to be able to use.
- Add storage up the walls. Going vertical with your storage is a great idea because the whole idea of clutter is that it takes up floor space. If you have storage in the form of shelving up the walls of your room, you’ll be able to Add all of that clutter to a designated area in the walls and shelves. You don’t have to waste an inch of space this way and you won’t have to take up any floor room either. It’s a good way to ensure that you maximise the space you have in your bedroom without cluttering up the floor.
- Use taller furniture. In the same way as using shelves up the walls, you can use taller furniture to help you to get rid of the floor space being taken up. If you’ve got some shelves to put things on, you’re not going to be throwing your things all over the floor anymore. Vertical shelving and taller furniture can help you to do this. Taller furniture gives you more floor space back because you can go up the wall. The best part about tall furniture is you can close the cupboard doors and not have to look at it.
Use the back of the door. Are you finding your shoes all over the floor of your room? Using shoe storage in the back of your closet or the back of your bedroom door is a great idea. Over the door organizers or even just a few hooks give you a place for some bits and pieces to go so that you don’t have to have them on the floor or scattered around the surfaces of your bedroom.
