Mask ‘N’ Ask Game Review & Competition
This month the lovely people from Drumond Park sent the boys a game called Mask ‘N’ Ask to review.
Mask ‘N’ Ask is a board game for children aged 7+. The game is best played with between 2 and 4 players. Inside the box you will find:
- 30 x double – sided masks (animal and human faces)
- 4 x glasses
- 4 x playing pieces
- 48 x yes / no counters
- 1 x spinner
- 1 x game board
To set up the game each player chooses a colour – this can be either yellow, red, green or blue. Each player then takes their glasses, playing piece and yes / no counters. Each player then chooses a mask either animal or person (depending on which side of the game board you decide to play). The game contains 30 double-sided masks with animal faces on one side, and people on the other. On the animal masks you will find a Hippo, Owl, or Monkey, for instance. And on the other, the masks maybe a Queen, Fisherman or Sailor.
The game starts with the youngest player and then play moves round clockwise. Each player takes it in turn to spin the spinner – and then asks the other players the question printed on the board, on which their playing piece has landed. For a person character, this could be “Do I wear a helmet in my job?” and for an animal it might be “Do I have stripes, spots or a pattern?”. The other players have to give ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ answers, and the player then places a YES or NO token on the relevant space, to help them remember the answer. If you get a YES answer then you can take another turn. You continue guessing and spinning until you get a NO answer. This is when you can then take a guess as to what character you are. If you guess wrong the next player gets to take their turn.
When a player guesses his or her identity, they choose a new mask from the pile – the first person to guess three masks correctly is the winner! The game had the boys in stitches especially when they saw each other with the masks on. It is certainly a game I would recommend for family time. It is a relatively quick play game and you could increase / decrease the number of masks you need to guess correctly to become the winner.
Although both Nathan and James are both younger than 7 with a little help from myself and their dad they were able to play too.
