#MakeItDontBuyIt Christmas Gifts and Decorations
Christmas is just over a week away and I don’t know about you but we are really starting to get into the festive spirit. The boys break up from school in a couple of days and they can’t wait for lots of festive fun, games and films on the TV.
Something we have been doing together over the last week is making presents and decorations for our relatives. We were recently asked by Hobbycraft if we’d like to take part in their #MakeItDontBuyIt Christmas campaign and we couldn’t wait to get stuck in after all you don’t need to spend lots of money for loved ones to know that you care – it’s the thought that counts after all. To help us with our Christmas crafts Hobbycraft sent us a lovely hamper of crafty items.
We started by making Christmas Cards – these are as simple or as difficult / messy / crafty as you make them. We folded some green card in half and decorated our cards with glitter, felt letters, felt tip pens and Christmas tree 3D stickers. Although simple James’ finished cards really do have a personal touch to them.
The next Christmas item we made was a paper tree decoration – now this idea is not our own – we found a video on Youtube and we loved it so we decided to give it ago ourselves but it was pretty simple to follow and the results are amazing. You can see the video below. We finished our tree by adding bows and pom poms but you could add anything you’d like to your tree.
James said that he wanted to decorate glass jars so that they could be filled with sweets for his uncle Peter (my little brother) his Nana (my mum) and his teachers at school. The jars cost us £1 from a local bargain shop. We used Christmas themed paper and PVA glue to decorate the jars, but you could add ribbon, bows, stick on decorations and you could even make your own snowmen from cotton wool or pom poms.
Lastly in the hamper of goodies sent to us was a stocking, James decorated the stocking with pom poms and a felt reindeer that we had been given previously in some craft items – he can’t wait to hang it up on Christmas Eve.
There are so many Christmas decorations and gifts you could make including snowflakes, hanging decorations, crackers and boxes to hold special gifts in them.
