IT Returns…. 27 Years Later

Have you seen the new IT movie? If so did you know that has been released to coincide with the 27th anniversary of the release of the original movie… If you’ve seen the original (which terrified me as a teenager – I’ll tell you more about that in a mo) then you will also know that Pennywise the clown awakens every 27 years to hunt and kill his unsuspecting victims. If you’ve not seen it let me set the scene a little for you…

“October 1957. “It” awakens and the small town of Derry, Maine will never be the same. Stephen King brings to life every childhood fear and phobia as seven children face an unthinkable horror which appears in various forms, including “Pennywise” – a clown who lives, hunts and kills from the town’s sewers. Years later, the surviving adults who are brave enough return to stop the new killing spree, this time for good”.

I have only seen IT twice and I don’t ever want to watch it again or the new version anytime soon. The first time I saw IT was a mistake, my dad said it was really good and I’d enjoy it… no, no and no some more. It terrified me then and it still does now. At the age of 16, I didn’t want to sleep on my own or with the lights off, the second time I watched the movie, I thought I’ve already seen it, know what’s going to happen it can’t possibly scare you again – WRONG!!!! it was just as horrible as I’d remembered and it scared me a lot. I’ve never watched it since. Why I thought the second time would be a good idea is beyond me. However if your not a woosy pants like me then you might enjoy the film (plenty of people do).

Here are the few scenes that have stuck with me now all these years later and even now they still make me shudder…

Want Your Boat Georgie…

This is the scene where we realise just how murderous Pennywise is. Poor Georgie is the first victim that we see, playing with his boat in the rain when it suddenly falls down the storm drain.. he never stood a chance. It’s also his death that taunts and haunts his brother throughout the movie.

They All Float…

Probably the scariest bit of the film in my opinion. Those beady eyes and that voice in fact just his voice in the whole movie… even now I have goosebumps. I don’t think anyone is actually 100% sure what Pennywise is referring to here although many assume its because he lurks in the sewers and everyone knows that dead bodies float when they come to the surface.

The Clown in the Moon

I had nightmares about this years after watching the film, this is why I don’t watch scary things often they creep up on me when I least expect it and scare the living daylights out of me – even Voldemort appeared in a dream once months after watching Harry Potter and I love my Harry Potter films, books, clothing you name it I’ve got it. In the movie, Pennywise is seen in the moon tormenting one of the adult characters. I can’t remember exactly where this is (it’s possible prison or a mental hospital and his face is so sinister in the shining moon and clearly quite evident that he can’t be escaped (terrifying in my opinion).

If you fancy watching a scary movie or two this Halloween why not watch one of these pictured below, they are sure to set the tone for the scariest night of the year perfectly.

Have you seen IT and its recent remake? Did you enjoy them? What are your favourite parts?
