How You Can Make Money From Blogging
This year My Three and Me is 8 years old. What started off as a place to write down my memories of the boys being small to share with all our family and friends is now my fulltime job.
I decided to turn my blog into my fulltime job after I had been blogging for 5 years. I had been working with a number of brands on product reviews and days out and after a few years I started to get lots of offers of paid work – this was when I knew that the time was right. It wasn’t a straightforward decision though as I had to make sure that I could support our family as I didn’t want the change to have a negative effect on our household.
If you’re considering setting up a blog as a way to work from home there are many things to consider and you should know that it’s not easy and you won’t start earning money for a long time – as I said it took 5 years before the offers started coming my way. Having said that, there are a few ways as a blogger you can earn money.
Sign up to blogging platforms
There are many blogging platforms out there so make sure that you know what you are signing up to before agreeing to work. Most platforms require you to have a certain number of monthly unique visitors or DA (domain authority) ranking before they will send work your way. Get Blogged is a platform that has a number of paid blogging opportunities available for bloggers with blogs of all niches and DA rankings.
Collaborations
Most bloggers collaborate with brands and companies. This can be in the form of hosting a competition, writing an honest review, hosting guest content or writing unique articles.
Advertising
Another service that many bloggers offer is advertising. This may be in the form of a banner or in a sidebar. If they have good visitor numbers they can earn money from advertising platforms too.
Outreach
Some bloggers work in outreach and social media management alongside their main blogs. This may mean that they work with other bloggers by writing content for their blogs or asking bloggers to write and publish unique content for them on behalf of their client.
Have a shop
Some bloggers have an online shop on their blogs or a blog on the side of their online shop. If they are craft bloggers it makes sense for them to sell the items they blog about. Many bloggers also include affiliate links in some of their blog posts so that any items they recommend they earn a little commission should someone click through and buy an item they have recommended – Amazon is a popular retailer for this type of earnings.
Working from home gives me the freedom to choose my own hours, negotiate my own terms and conditions before agreeing to work and setting my own earning rate. I can accept or decline work and work around our family commitments.
I absolutely love my job and wouldn’t change it for the world – so much so I’m about to launch a new blog – lookout for Life of a Fisherman’s Wife going live in the next few months.
