How I am Hopefully Improving My Photography Skills
When I first started blogging taking pictures was the least of my concerns. I didn’t even own a good camera and looking back you can tell that they were rubbish although having said that I didn’t take that many pictures when I first started writing My Three and Me.
Fast forward 9 years and now things have totally changed. I spend much of my working week in the house or garden taking photographs for something work-related. I’m pleased to say that my photography skills have improved a lot.
If you are new to photography there are a few things you need to know. I am by no means a professional and my pictures still need a lot of work but I am happy with the progress I am making. If you are aiming to take good pictures you need a good camera (or tablet or phone that is capable of taking good, clear photos), a tripod, lighting (or a place where you can take photographs that has good light), props and backdrops (why not consider a company like Kate Backdrop). You can start off with a relatively small basic kit and build it up over time. Cameras and lenses can be very expensive so don’t rush in and spend a lot of money until you need to. You can still get great images with a basic kit too.
One of the things I take pictures of as a blogger is items I’ve been sent to review. For review posts, the photographs have to be clear and the items properly laid out. I find taking pictures time-consuming and can often spend an hour or two setting up my workspace (placing a backdrop, adjusting the lighting, sorting the camera etc) and then taking and editing the pictures. For example, if I was taking photos of clothing I would need to line up and place the items such a pair of trousers and a going-out top in the centre of the photo so that they stand out. When I’m taking photos of items such as T-shirts I like to fold them neatly and if they have a slogan on them I make sure that this is visible.
When I take photos of other things I sometimes use a contrasting background so that it makes the items stand out better. I will be looking to purchase more backgrounds including vinyl printed and painted backdrops for photography soon as I only have a couple at the minute.
