House Parties In Your 30s: Who Says Teens Should Have All The Fun?

Youth is wasted on the young. Seriously. Think back at all the defining moments from the house parties of your teens and twenties. You could play bingo with all the unpleasant memories mixed in with the happy ones. Ever had to frantically scrub a friend’s vomit from the pure wool carpet before your parents noticed? Ever drunkenly snogged someone you shouldn’t have? Ever woke up the next morning mortified at the very public argument you and your boyfriend at the time had which left you a mess of heaving sobs while he went upstairs to play on the Xbox / Playstation / Megadrive (delete as appropriate according to age range). Ever wondered how to repair an irreplaceable case that got damaged while you and your mates were doing the dance to “Saturday Night”. Anyone calling house yet?

Many of our fondest memories come from the house parties we had in our youth… but we need to don our rose tinted specs to view them with a smile on our faces. The truth is that throwing house parties in your 30s is way better.

You can enjoy proper food

The great thing about throwing house parties when you’re a grownup is that you can set your culinary heights a little closer than some sausage rolls, a few multi packs of Wotsits and uneven lumps of cheddar skewered together with a little hunk of pineapple for… no discernable reason.

Throwing a dinner party in your thirties allows you to take the time to create more natural foods made from real ingredients with tastes that your guests will savour and delight in as the conversation flows.

You can get a little theatre with your drinks

Gone are the days when the height of beverage-based sophistication was choosing a cider that didn’t come in a silver litre bottle. Now you and your friends can be more discerning in your drinks as you experiment with different flavour combinations to create sumptuous cocktails or expertly match food and wine pairings. Or, if you felt like going all out you could even invest in mobile Cocktail Bar Hire and watch the highly capable mixologists serve you up theatrical drinks that are billowing with dry ice or Insta-perfect in their presentations. Drinks are so much better when you take the time to savour them rather than simply draining a bottle so that you and your friends can gather around and spin it.

You know that people are going to behave themselves

A house party is so much nicer when you don’t have to worry about the verbal dismembering you’re going to get from your parents when they get home and see the extent to which they’ve trashed the place. You know that your guests are going to behave themselves because they either have to drive home or they need to be up early to drop their eldest off at football practice in the morning.

In fact, everyone will probably want to get to bed by the time 11 rolls around anyway.

Bliss!
