Get Your Garden Furniture Summer Ready With These Five Tips

Whether it is garden benches, patio furniture, sun loungers or anything in-between, you are going to need to dust off the cobwebs and bring out your garden furniture as the Summer kicks in.

The only trouble with garden furniture, particularly through the winter months when it is in storage, is that it can look tired and worn.

So, to make sure that your garden furniture is Summer ready, we have put together 5 tips to try out for yourself.

Clean it up

One of the first things that you need to do is give your garden furniture a good clean. If you have kept your furniture safely stored away in the winter, then it is likely to be nice and clean already. If a little on the dusty side,

The best approach to take is to dust off the furniture and then tackle it with warm and soapy water. This should be enough to get rid of any stains or grime. If your furniture is made of wood, then you need to make sure that the soap you use is oil based as this will prevent rotting.

Leave it out to dry

Hopefully, we are going to be blessed with some dry and warm weather, which means that after washing, you can leave your garden furniture out in the sun to dry. By doing this you are cutting down on the chances that it will be struck with any mould or mildew, as natural drying really is the best approach to take.

Drying it in the sunshine also gives you the perfect opportunity to check over each piece of furniture. You can take a look at whether there are any loose nuts, bolts or screws, checking over whether or not they need to replaced or tightened.

Bring cushions in if rain is forecast

Not all parts of your furniture is going to be able to withstand the rain. Which means that if you think rain is on the horizon, then it is a good idea to bring your cushions in at the very least. You can buy covers which are great for making sure that your furniture as a whole stays relatively dry, however, to really keep everything in the best condition possible, it does make sense to store the soft furnishings inside when you can.

Not only do the cushions benefit from coming inside every so often. The rest of the garden furniture will also stay in much better condition if it is kept inside. This doesn’t necessarily have to be inside your house, it could be in a shed or in the garage. Wherever there is going to be room to keep it for the duration of the year.

Clean it if you spill

We are all guilty of a spillage or two from time to time. Especially in the garden where we might not be taking as much care as inside our homes. If you spilt something on your sofa, then you wouldn’t just leave it to soak in. The same is true for any garden furniture. The thing if you spill something is to act fast. Mix a mild detergent with water and get to work on the stain as soon as you can. Once you have removed the stain, pop that particular cushion into the sun to dry, as this will help you to keep the mould or mildew at bay.

Enjoy it

After going to all that effort to make sure that your garden furniture is looking great and ready to use, it seems silly not to make the most of it. Plan in some time when you are going to head into the garden, relax, unwind and simply spend some quality time with your family and friends. After all, isn’t that what the summer is for?

Whilst the majority of garden furniture is designed to withstand any weathers, it makes sense that harsh weather can take its toll on how our chairs and tables look.
