All I Want For Christmas…

Can you believe that we are just 6 weeks away from Christmas? Everyone I have spoken to has said that this year really has flown by and we certainly agree. I think for us, this is mainly because we have had such a busy year. What with Matt starting the year off in hospital with Kidney Stones, all the planning we needed to do for finally getting married in New York in the summer and Nathan starting high school in September we’ve barely had time to breathe.

We are so excited for Christmas this year although we have been together for 13 years this is our first as husband and wife. I have so much planned for the festive season including a trip to the Christmas market, panto and lots of festive baking. We’re also going to my brothers-in-law’s for Christmas dinner which is a bonus in its self as I don’t have to cook (next year it’s my turn though).

We were recently contacted by Boots who wanted to find out about what Christmas means to us. They recently surveyed 11000 people to find out about their Christmases. Their results showed the following…

  • Almost a quarter of Brits started Christmas shopping in August
  • 57% of people say seeing the persons face when opening the gift is their favourite part of gifting
  • 1/3 of people think they are difficult to buy for – stating they have everything they need
  • 65% of pet owners buy Christmas presents for their pets
  • Creating a wish list peaks at 25 – 34 (63% of 25 – 34 create a wish list)
  • Wish lists are mainly inspired by the internet and what they see on social media (44% of those 18 – 24 are inspired by social media)
  • 41% of Brits say choosing the gift is the most difficult part of Christmas shopping
  • Gifts form a partner cause most excitement (39%)
  • Partners gifts receive the most thought (38%), followed by children (20%)
  • 59% of British shoppers consider sustainability when purchasing Christmas gifts
  • 37% would prefer to self-gift than receive Christmas presents from others
  • Roast potatoes are the most essential to Christmas dinner (69%)
  • Chocolate coins and oranges make up the quintessential Christmas stocking
  • Staple gifts: Chocolates (44%), Fragrance (41%(, Booze (40%), Socks (26%), PJ’s (24%) and Hamper (15%)
A festive arrangement with shiny gift boxes, red baubles, candy canes, and peppermint sweets on red fabric, plus a touch of boots Christmas presents, all set against a white background for a cheerful holiday atmosphere.

For me, Christmas is all about spending time as a family and although it’s a little bit cheesy it’s about presence not presents – we’ve spent many years apart on Christmas day as Matthew used to work in security and being able to spend quality time together is definitely the most important thing.

I’ve already started my Christmas shopping this year (only a couple of weeks ago though not in August like mentioned above) which is really early for me and have even bought a fair few presents. I usually start a little after Nathans Birthday next week which means I’m normally dashing around the shops in the middle of December trying to buy everything on as fewer trips as possible to avoid the big crowds.

After the presents are opened the next important part of Christmas Day is, of course, Christmas dinner. At my brother in law’s house, we usually have beef but when I cook it is always turkey with all the trimmings and it wouldn’t be Christmas dinner without pigs in blankets and Brussel sprouts (even if half of us don’t like them) and don’t forget the stuffing and homemade Yorkshire Puddings.

Boots asked us to choose some gifts for some of the special people in our life. I chose a perfume gift set for my best friend from their Christmas gifts for her and a Ted Baker gift for my eldest son from their Christmas gifts for him. I also chose a little perfume gift for myself too.

A navy Ted Baker toiletry bag, a pink Jimmy Choo Floral gift set, and a red perfume trio from Boots Christmas Gifts are displayed on a white surface with festive red and white decorations in the background.
