Tracks of My Years – Mrs Mummy Harris

This week’s Tracks of My Years comes from Mrs Mummy Harris. She can also be found over on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.

So, Mrs Harris, it’s over to you.

Music has always been a big part of my life. my parents were dancers, I grew up dancing and singing and now Ben has the dancing bug.

My mum loves retelling the story of her holiday to Tenerife when six months pregnant with me and that every night without fail, once the can-can came on, I started kicking. For this; my first track can only be the can-can!!!

When I was really little I used to be obsessed with the song Eternal Flame by the Bangles. Atomic Kitten ruined it with their version! I love listening to it and my parents requested it at my wedding as it is a song that they think of me everytime they hear it!

My parents divorced when I was little, but I remember my dad used to listen to a range of CDs in his car from Michael Jackson to Phil Collins. I’m sure I’m not the only one, but I loved it when my Dad drummed on the steering wheel to the drum solo on this tune!!!

The soundtrack to my holiday to America with my family and grandparents was Aqua – Barbie girl. My nan danced to it and it was and still is one of my favourite memories of her. Plus who doesn’t love Aqua?

When the world got a bit darker post 9/11, I found the Black-Eyed Pea “where is the love” a song that resonated with me… my life had been hard but the world outside my bubble had appeared so good. I wondered if it was me being more aware but this song aside from the message is a tune.

At school, smoking down the cycle track with the girls had one song and one song only that was sung and played over and over again. I love this tune and the fact that my brother also blared this out at home. I think this is why I got into alternative music.

The next song is such an overplayed song. however, it followed me and Hubby everywhere when we were dating so reluctantly we accepted this was “our song.” Of course, we also had it played at our wedding for our first dance!

Throughout the years, musicals have always been the soundtrack to my life, whether I love pop music, rock, emo or metal. Musicals have always remained my friend and more so my favourite movie Moulin Rouge. I just love the way Baz Luhrmann uses singles and turns them into musical songs. So for that, I have to include the following tune, can you spot all the different songs in there?

Since Ben has arrived, pop has become the sound to our household much to Hubby’s dismay. However, he loves Little Mix and for that, I couldn’t put this post together with the following song:

What do you think of Lianne’s tracks? I think there are some great song choices and who doesn’t like a little bit of Little Mix? Barbie Girl seems to be a song choice that keeps cropping up (I have to admit I was an Aqua fan too but it’s ok when you’re 13/14 right?)
