Everyone needs a good night’s sleep to help them feel refreshed and ready for the day ahead. I’m lucky that I get a good night’s sleep most nights and more often than not I wake up feeling refreshed. I would go as far as to say that I love to sleep and I hate having to get out of my warm and cosy bed especially when it’s cold and miserable outside. But I know that not everyone gets a good nights sleep and some people find it hard to relax, suffer in pain or just find it impossible to get comfortable, my mum has rarely had a full night’s sleep for the last 5 years as she suffers from all of the above.
If you are finding it hard to get a good night’s sleep here are a few of my #SleepExperts tips that I hope you will find helpful:
Get into a good bedtime routine – If you have to be up early for work make sure you go to bed at a reasonable time. If it takes you a while to drop off make sure you start your relaxation / winding down in good time. It’s not just children that need a good bedtime routine to help them fall asleep.
Try to relax before going to bed – If you have a stressful job or have been on the go all day if you try going to bed without winding down first you may find that it takes you a while to drop off. A few things to help you relax could include:
- Have a warm bath – My favourite part of the day is when the time comes to have my bubble bath.
- Enjoy a warm milky drink – My dad swears by a cup of Horlicks every night before going to bed. I don’t like it but I love a nice cup of hot chocolate and a couple of biscuits.
- Reading – I find that reading for 30 – 60 minutes before going to sleep helps me to sleep better on a night. I’m not a fan of horror or thriller themed stories but if I was I’d never read them before bed or else I’d be up all night with bad dreams I know everyone has different preferences so choose something that you enjoy and will help you relax.
Invest in a new bed – sometimes if your bed is old, then a new one is exactly what you need for a good nights sleep. The same is true of your favourite chair. If it doesn’t offer you support any more then it might be time to upgrade. Bad support can result in aches and pains which can make you sleep badly. adjustablebeds.co.uk/recliner-chairs/ has a great range of affordable reclining chairs to choose from.
