We are planning a massive overhaul of our home, but it is going to take us years to get everything exactly as we want it as there is just so much to do and it is going to cost us a lot of money as we are hoping to extend and change the interior of our home completely. As we can’t do any of this in the immediate future (we have a wedding to plan and pay for and numerous residential school trips to pay for) at the minute we are opting for the quick and simple makeover so that our home is cosy and inviting.
I really can’t wait to get our home exactly as we want but until then here are some of the things we are thinking about updating.
Decorate – A lick of paint makes a huge difference to the appearance of any home. Most rooms in our house are magnolia or cream so that it is easy to keep them looking clean and tidy. We recently redecorated our kitchen and bathroom and both look like new rooms as they are so much brighter and fresher.
Add A Feature Wall – In our living room, we have a feature wall – well chimney breast. At the moment, the wall is covered in a lovely floral pattern that matches the rest of our decorating. When we decorate this room later in the year we are undecided about what to do with this wall. Should we add a new wallpaper design? or paper it the same as the rest of the room and have a new wall as the feature wall in the room? if so we might add a wall mural so that we have a bigger feature in the room. The choices are endless and there are so many to choose from. We decorated our bedroom not so long ago but I am already thinking of redoing it and adding a wall mural featuring an image from New York as I think it would look great in our room.
Lighting – Adding new light features and fixtures can make a room look so much nicer and brighter. You can find reasonably cheap fittings in stores and they are quite easy to install – if you aren’t sure how to do this leave it to the professionals who do.
Curtains or Blinds – Even if you just add a lick of magnolia to all the rooms in your home, adding new curtains or blinds can really help give the room a new feel. If you keep your room colours neutral then you can add any patterned or coloured curtains you like, if like us you do have feature walls you can also accessorize your curtains or blinds so that they match.
Flooring – We have laminate in our living room but when we decorate we are planning to replace this with a carpet. We also need a new hallway, stairs and landing carpet so we might just have the same carpet run through all 3 areas so that we can hopefully keep the cost down.
Once our living room has been decorated we will be replacing many of the furnishings and fittings. You can read about these here. Are you planning on updating your home soon? If so I’d love to hear about your plans.
