Waitrose Pumpkin Carving Kit Review
I am the world’s least creative person. In all honesty I suck! Matthew and the boys on the other hand are very creative and love anything that means they can get their hands busy. Luckily for them (not so much for me) Waitrose sent us one of their Pumpkin Carving Kits to review.
Included in the kit is a pumpkin, tools and an instruction booklet that includes different patterns that you can choose from. The instructions are very clearly set out and easy to follow. The first step was to cut a hole in the bottom of the pumpkin and get all the seeds and insides out using the scoop provided. This was the job I was given to do as according to the boys even Mummy couldn’t mess this bit up.
Once I had done my job, I left the pumpkin in Matthew’s capable hands. The boys had a look through the different patterns and decided which one they wanted their dad to do. They chose a ghost pattern. What we did notice is that each pattern is rated from easy to hard, so no matter what your skill range there is one suitable for everyone. Once you have decided which pattern you are going to do you need to cut it out and tape it to your pumpkin. Once in place you can then start to mark out the design using the tools provided. Be warned these are very sharp and definitely meant for older children (aged 12 or above) or adult use only.
The tools made it very easy to cut around the pattern, the little saws cut easily into the pumpkin and left a very good finish once the pattern was finished. Both Matthew and the boys were very surprised at the end result and are going to the supermarket next week for more pumpkins so that they can have others made too.
The kit is priced at £6.50. I think this is very affordable and reasonable as sometimes you can end up paying more than this just for your pumpkin on its own. We were very pleased with our ghosts and will certainly be trying out more patterns very soon. I may even have a go myself next time after all the man of the house made it look ever so easy.
