At the weekend we went to visit family over on the coast. We’d had the trip planned for a couple of weeks and it was the only time we could see my family before Christmas due to all of our schedules being so busy.
The weather forecast for the weekend wasn’t good and there were several warnings in place up and down the country luckily for us although the weather on the way home was horrendous we didn’t run into too much trouble – had we woken up to bad weather we wouldn’t have travelled at all. Having said that Matthew is a good driver and is used to driving in all conditions come rain or shine for work. We had freezing rain, sleet and winds but I can honestly tell you I was so pleased when we got back home.
As I’ve already mentioned Matthew drives a lot with work. This means that there is more than normal wear and tear on our car – it needs servicing more often and things replacing especially the tyres. It was good timing that the car needed new one last week. If we’d waited until this week who knows how our journey home could’ve ended up. We saw a couple of cars that were parked up on the verges as they had crashed on the slippery roads.
Having good tyres on your car could be the difference between life and death – that sounds so scary but it’s true. If you have low tread on your tyres, uneven sized tyres or tyres that don’t have the same tread patterns you may find that your car handles very badly and slides in wet or wintry weather.
If you are not confident about driving in difficult conditions you should think about staying off the roads and find alternative ways to make your journey often a lack in confidence can be a big factor in accidents that could so easily be avoided.
Do you think you know all there is to know about tyres? Take the #TyreChallenge quiz from Kwik Fit and see what result you get. I scored 8 out of 10. I don’t think that’s too bad considering I don’t drive. If you take the test you can share it on Facebook to encourage all your friends to take part too.
Another thing to consider before the winter weather really sets in is having your car serviced. Your local Kwik Fit will be able to ensure your car is serviced ready for what ever winter throws our way.
