Liverpool, home of The Beatles, Cilla Black, Everton and Liverpool FC, named the European City of Culture in 2008 and a great place to visit. There’s so much to see and do it would be impossible to cover it all in one blog post so I’m not even going to try.
However, If you’re planning a visit soon and you’re stuck for a few ideas about what to do in Liverpool I am going to share with you five things that you could do whilst you’re there.
Visit Albert Dock – The docks were an important asset to Liverpool and still are, they’re just one of the many stunning views that the city has to offer. They used to be home to This Morning and has always been a popular place to visit with visitors young and old. You can watch the boats come and go and even add a padlock to the fencing if you wish (there are lots already there).
Walk Down Mathew Street – If you don’t know this is where the famous Cavern Club is situated and no visit to Liverpool would be complete without a trip here. The place where Cilla Black and The Beatles were first discovered. Why not have a photo or two taken with their statues. It is a must for any music fan.
Go Shopping – There are plenty of places to shop whilst in Liverpool, treat the family to the shopping spree of their lives. Once you’re shopped out why not take a break in Chavasse Park where you can grab something to eat and/or let your little ones let off some steam. There’s even a nature trail if you fancy a little walk.
Watch A Football Match – If you’re a Liverpool FC or Everton fan then this is a must whilst in the city. Watch your favourite team play on home turf. You could even maybe arrange to go on a stadium tour if you were staying for more than one day.
Visit A Museum – Did you know that Liverpool has the most museums and galleries outside of London? No neither did I but this means if you’re planning a visit soon you are sure to find something that will take your interest. Why not visit the Merseyside Maritime Museum where you will learn all about the Liverpool’s historical links to the sea including its part in slavery, the Titanic and much much more. If ships aren’t your thing why not take a trip to the Museum of Liverpool which is the world’s first national museum devoted to the history of a regional city. It lets visitors take a tour of football, pop music and much much more. If art is more your thing make sure you visit one of the many galleries the city has to offer. You won’t be disappointed.
Have you been to Liverpool before, or are you planning a trip soon? If so I’d love to hear about the things and places to have visited or plan to visit.
