I work from home. I have a small space in our living room with a desk and a small filing cabinet and at the minute that is enough for me but as my business grows, I may need more space. We don’t have a spare room at the minute so I may have to consider this when / if we ever get round to extending our home in the future. I may even consider investing in an office in the garden or renting a small office space in town. It is surprisingly cheap and definitely something to consider if my other options aren’t viable. Until then I can make a list of everything I will need when I do eventually need/have my own little office.
Here is my list:
A Desk and chair – It goes without saying that every office needs a desk. I love that there are so many desks on the market but that makes it so hard to decide which one would be the best for me and my office. I suppose space is the big question. Depending on the size of the room or office that I had would determine the size of my desk. I’d love to be able to look out into the garden though as we have a variety of wildlife that visits us regularly including robins, sparrows, magpies, thrushes and a family of grey squirrels.
A computer – At the minute I use a laptop for all my work. If I had my own office I would definitely have a desktop computer and just use my laptop when away or not in the office.
Supplies – Every office needs supplies. I love stationery and have enough pens and pencils to sink a battleship I won’t lie but there is always room for more, especially as some of my supplies will never ever be used as they’re just so pretty. Other office supplies I’d need include paper, printer ink, pencils, highlighters and so many other things.
Filing cabinets and shelving – A must in any office are places to store all those important office supplies and important work documents until they are needed. I hate anything that looks too official or clerical so would be wanting to make sure that any cabinets I had were both functional and looked nice.
Accessories – My office would definitely be a cosy place. I’d have lots of pictures of the boys and our pets dotted around and I’d make sure there was a lovely comfy chair in case I had to entertain anyone in there.
