It’s no secret that Matthew and I are planning our wedding. We have just celebrated our 12 year anniversary and have said that we really must set a date for the big day soon. Whether we say I do in New York, Gretna Green or here in Yorkshire, I have no doubt that it will be an amazing day. Whilst planning, we were talking about our honeymoon and some of the places we would love to go – just the two of us for a little time on our own. It would be perfect.
The only problem we have when it comes to deciding on our destination is that we both have different ideas of where the perfect place to honeymoon would be, whilst Matthew is thinking lakes, fish or a race track, I’m thinking blue seas and white sandy beaches. Below are just five locations that we have considered – the list is much longer but we thought five for starters was enough.
Turks and Caicos
The Caribbean would be my idea of paradise and I’ve been looking at rentals in Turks and Caicos. It’s not somewhere I had heard of until we’d started doing our research on honeymoon locations. The more I read the more I realised I couldn’t think of anything better than spending a week or two in the Carribean. If money was not a factor this would definitely be my number one choice of location. A luxurious villa with a private pool and a white sandy beach just a stone’s throw away would definitely be my idea of heaven. I’d love to snorkel and see the coral reefs up close. It would be a must to sample some of the local food and culture and I’m sure Matthew would be up for a fishing trip whilst I made the most of the gorgeous beaches or reading my book by the pool.
Kenya is a place I have always wanted to visit. When I was little my nana brought me a little jet Rhino back from her trip there and she told us how amazing it was to visit. I would love to go on a Safari, being so close to the wild animals in their natural environments would be so magical and there are trips available that allow you to sleep out in the wild. One place I would love to stay though is Giraffe Manor where the animals wander freely and the Giraffes will come and go as they please and are even known to stick their heads in through the windows – how awesome would that be? My favourite animals though are Rhinos and I would love to be able to see them in their natural habitat. I’ve only ever seen them in wildlife parks and although they always look content it would be a dream to see them roaming free.
Monaco would be the place that ticked boxes on both of our lists. It has the sea and an exciting race track when the F1 is in town. I would love to visit on race weekend as it always looks so fabulous on TV – it is one of my favourite races of the season and I’m sure we would have an amazing time. I don’t think we would stay in Monaco for longer than a race weekend though but it would be a lovely stop gap either before going somewhere else or on our way home.
New York is one of the places we have considered getting married. If this ends up being the case we would have our honeymoon at the same time. Once we were married it would be the perfect time for us to take in some of the attractions that the city has to offer. I’d love to see a show on Broadway, take in the sights from the top of the Empire State Building and take a ferry to see the Statue of Liberty up close. I could think of nothing better than walking hand in hand through Central Park and I’m almost certain the food and shopping we’d get to try would be out of this world. Although we are thinking of getting married in the summer I think it would be amazing to get married in December. Imagine the photos we’d be able to get if it snowed and we could go ice skating in Central Park, see the decorations, Christmas lights and the world famous Rockerfella Christmas tree.
I would love to visit Iceland. I’m not one for the cold so I’d have to make sure I wrapped up extra warm but I’m sure it would be worth it to experience the Northern Lights. It is something that I’ve always wanted to see and although we occasionally get a glimpse of the lights here in the UK they are nothing compared to those in Iceland. I would love to pay a visit to the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa too – what would be better than getting to relax in a naturally heated pool whilst on hooneymoon?
I knew when I started this list that these locations would be amazing honeymoon destinations but didn’t realise just how much I want to visit them all. I think I will have to add them to my must-visit list and work my way through them all. The question is where should we go first?
Have you been on Honeymoon? If so, where did you and your partner go? If not, is there somewhere you’d like to go?
