Planning Our Living Room Makeover

I love this time of year, the extra hours of sunlight in an evening thanks to the clocks changing, the flowers and trees starting to bloom in my garden and the massive spring clean, clear out and freshen up that I always treat my home too. This year, although I will be clearing out all rooms. I will be spending most of my time focusing on my living room as this room is the one that we use the most.

Room Makeovers can be a costly affair but I always try to keep the costs down – as the boys are still relatively young I like to buy things that will last and will look nice for as long as possible. One website I have been visiting a lot recently is LionsHome. They have so many design ideas for every room, your garden and they even have DIY inspiration too, you’re spoilt for choice. I like that LionsHome has everything you may want all in one place. For example, if you want to update your bed all you need to do is type in “kingsize bed” in the search bar and it will bring up lots of different beds, where they can be bought and how much they cost – it’s a dream home makeover search engine.

Here are some of the items I am considering when the time comes to makeover my living room. I plan to spend no more than £200 on the whole room but that may change depending on the items I see when I start in the next few weeks.

A Rug – We have laminate flooring in our living room and when the evenings are still quite cold you can certainly feel it when you walk around the room in just your socks. I’m looking to buy a plain black or grey rug so that it keeps in with our sofas, cushions and feature wall.

A Coat of Paint – It’s amazing how a quick lick of paint can make such a difference to a room. If you have a papered feature wall and the wallpaper is still intact then there’s no need to change it (unless of course, you want to) but by adding fresh paint to all the other walls you will certainly brighten your room back up.

A Mirror – Our living room is long but not very wide. We already have a mirror on the chimney breast but when I start my makeover I will be changing our black framed mirror for something a little lighter in colour.

A Bookshelf – I love to read and can read a book in less than a week when I get the time but I have nowhere to put all my books once I’ve read them. I love my Kindle but sometimes only a physical book will do. If I love a book and it’s one that I will reread I like to have both the Kindle and physical copies of it.

A Coffee Table – We don’t currently have a coffee table in our living room but this is definitely something I want to change. I’m quite fussy in what I’m looking for though as it has to have a little storage space for all the important things I misplace and somewhere I can leave my Kindle so that it’s to hand on a night when I want to relax with a cuppa and pick my book up where I last left it.

Do you have any plans to update your living room? If so, I’d love to hear what you’ve got planned in the comments below.

I love planning to decorate, that actually decorating however I don't love as it's too messy for my liking. The finished room is all worth it though.
