Have you seen Sainsbury’s 2016 Christmas advert? If not watch the video below and I bet by the end you’ll be singing or humming along. The advert follows Dave – a hard working dad, who comes up with a plan to make sure he can spend more time with his family at Christmas.
To coincide with this years advert you can create your very own stop-motion Christmas film on your phone with the Sainsbury’s ‘Greatest Gift’ Animation kit. The kit costs £5 (with a £2 donation to Great Ormond Street Hospital) and is available to buy both online and in stores while stocks last.
The kit includes ready-made film sets and a full cast of fun characters, including toy designer Dave and the members of his family. There is also a set of gingerbread people so that you can have a practice at making simple animations. You can bring them all to life using a wide range of props, ready-made sets and lots of top tips and instructions from the Director’s Handbook.
Once you have decided on your storyline and the main actors you need to download the Sainsbury’s Story Studio app for IOS or Android. With the app you can add text to your film and if you want you can even give your film a soundtrack.
Sainsbury’s sent us one of their kits and some of their special Gingerbread Dave’s (£1 each with 50p from each one donated to GOSH) so that we could make our own film. We were recently sent a kit of our own and some Gingerbread Daves (they’re delicious, by the way) We can’t wait to make our own videos when all our family come over on Boxing Day.
‘The Greatest Gift’ song which is featured in the advert is written by Flight of the Concords star Bret Mckenzie and sung by comedian James Corden. It’s available to download on iTunes for 99p and 62p of this will go to Great Ormond Street Hospital. You can also find it on SpotifyPremium.
