Real Construction Review

James has always the most creative out of the three boys. He can always be found digging in the garden and loves trying to make things out of scraps of wood when we visit my dad – it is quite scary how similar they are even though we moved away when James was small he is very much my dad’s “twin”. Recently we were asked to review Real Construction and I knew who would love to give it a try.We were sent the Real Construction Deluxe Workshop (£29.00) and a Starter Kit (£9.99).

Real Construction can be cut, nailed and built just like real wood but without all the danger and mess of real wood. The sets are aimed at children aged 6 and over.

Inside the Deluxe Workshop, you will find 129 pieces including a hand saw, square, 50 screws, 50 nails, hammer, screwdriver, detail saw, hole cutter, 2 hinges, 4 small planks, 3 large planks, 2 large beams, 5 small beams, 4 small logs and 1 large log. There are instructions for 8 projects and enough materials to make 4 of them. To make other projects you can buy extra sets of materials and tools. The Starter Kit has 51 pieces comprising of 4 planks, 5 rounds, a small hammer, a detail saw, 40 nails and a project book. There’s enough piece to make 3 complete projects.

James really loves the workshop set and the boat that he made – the instructions were a Beano Magazine we were sent at the same time as the Real Construction Sets. He is really looking forward to trying some of the other projects out – he has even asked Callum to help make the f1 car so I am sure that will keep them both busy during the Christmas holidays.

We did find that the boat was a little hard to make and even with my help (perhaps a hindrance) James still found it a bit of a struggle but in time I do believe that our creations will improve. When you or your child are cutting the pieces make sure you are careful of worktops or work areas underneath as you may end up with scratches that you didn’t want. But as you can see for a first attempt our boat was successful and James was very proud of what he had created.

Real Construction would make a great Christmas present for children who love to get creative. It’s safe and relatively mess free. It can be done as an individual activity but it’s also nice when someone helps you too – the perfect parent-child bonding activity.
