Let’s take a look at Chez’s tracks.
I am super excited to be joining in with Tracks of My Years. I have always really loved music. Many of my teenage years were spent lay on my bed listening to music. Even now I’m in my 30’s one of my favourite things to do is to sit and listen. Especially to 90’s music as that was my era.
My Early Childhood
If I had to choose one song to remind me of my childhood it would be something from the 60’s or something Motown as this is what I used to hear all the time when my mum was pottering around and tidying up. This is something that has rubbed off as I too love to listen to music when cleaning although my music is a little less erm old!
So for early childhood, I’m going to choose Going To The Chapel by The Dixie Cups. I remember my mum dancing in the living room to this song and teaching me a couple of side steps.
My teens were spent in a couple of ways, Firstly I would spend a lot of time on holiday at Butlins with my family and would quite often take one of my friends with me. So my next track is Where do you go by No Mercy. I have a fantastic memory of dancing to this with my friend Lisa. This particular night we were allowed in the over 18’s club and being only young it made us feel like we were a little more grown up.
As I reached my later teens I got a boyfriend who was older and drove a car. He was my first love and I used to spend a lot of time driving around with him and listening to happy hardcore. I loved anything dance and a favourite of mine was called Love of My Life by Dougal.
Holiday Park Days
At the age of 17, I went to work in holiday parks and do my dream job of working as an entertainer. Part of that was to join in with party dances and to dance along to artists such as 5ive, S Club 7 and Steps. I loved learning all of the dances and then helping the children to learn them too so for my next track I am going to choose Loves Got A Hold Of My Heart by Steps
I also worked at Butlins for a while and I used to spend my breaks with my friend Becky in the Megazone which was an indoor laser quest. We used to sit and chat with the guys who ran it and occasionally had a go ourselves against the guests. We always seemed to be in there when my next track was playing so again I have some fantastic memories of laughing, joking and having fun to Oxide and Neutrino Bound Da Reload
When I was 19 I met my older children’s father and when I turned 20 we got married. Pop idol was on the TV and my hen night was on the final, it was between Gareth Gates and Will Young to win. Will beat Gareth but I always had a soft spot for Gareth so for early adulthood I am going to choose Anyone of Us by Gareth Gates. Will Youngs song Evergreen actually ended up being my wedding song but seen as that didn’t end so well I will stick with Gareth Gates for this part.
Happy Memories in Tough Times
My mum got very sick when I was 21, We had gone on holiday and she had a cold which set off a very severe asthma attack She ended up spending a very long time in intensive care and on a ventilator. During this time I made some great friends and I remember working on a fair at Haven and one of the lads Jay used to dance to this all the time and make me chuckle. So my next song is Ignition remix by R Kelly
My First Child
When I was pregnant with my eldest child every time this next song came on he would have a little party in my stomach. I remember finding it crazy I had been told I would never have children then all of a sudden there was this baby in my belly going nuts every time this song came on. That song was Shut up by Black Eyed Peas
When I first passed my driving test I would go driving with the kids to Wales quite a lot. Ellie my eldest daughter always sat in the front seat as she was severely travel sick. Whenever the song We Are Young by Fun came on the radio we would power ballad it out together in the car. It just reminds me of great fun and special moments bonding with my little girl.
Not Quite Getting the Words right
My next song is a funny memory. My middle child Annabelle used to love it but she couldn’t say it properly so instead of singing Moves Like Jagger she would sing Moves like Dragon. I used to get her to sing it over and over just to hear her dragon song. Moves like Jagger by Maroon 5.
Shortly before Annabelle turned 3 I met and fell in love with Gareth. He was completely different to everyone I had ever been with and was absolutely amazing with the children. 5 years on we are still together and have 2 children of our own. We as a couple have been through more than most so we chose I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz for ‘Our Song’ it shows that whatever we face including recent bad times we won’t give up on each other. I’m hoping one day it will be our wedding song too.
My most favourite thing ever in the world is Christmas, I love everything about it from the decorations to the food. I love the fact people are smiling and happy. It wouldn’t be right if there wasn’t a Christmas song in with my memories! My next song reminds me of a Christmas night out with friends. We were sat in the car of a colleague called Keiron and this song was playing on the radio. I was singing the main part and everyone else did the backing singer parts. It was hilarious and such a good time. A memory that will stay with me as magical. That song was All I want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey
When Freddie was a small baby he used to love watching Teen Beach Movie with the older kids. One song, in particular, used to make him have a good old boogie and it was called That’s How We Do, Even when he was very tiny he would try to copy all of the dance moves
My Song For Now
Now we come to the present day. I am currently on a bit of a health kick and go to the gym regularly. Whilst I’m there a song keeps popping up on the TV’s. I don’t know why I just love it. Not only that Bethie my baby starts trying to dance to it every time it comes on the radio so my present day song would have to be Feels by Calvin Harris.
My Favourite Song EVER!!!
I’m going to finish my Tracks of My Years with my favourite song of all time. When I was younger there was something local to us called Kids International. Around the same time, this was on a song
came out by a girl group called En Vogue. I loved the song and remember sitting on some steps with friends and my ear phones in listening to it. You can imagine how chuffed I am that it has been re-released and is currently number 4 in the charts. So my best song ever is Don’t Let Go by En Vogue
Thank you so much for joining me on this trip down memory lane. I have really enjoyed writing this for you all today and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it.
What do you think of Chez’s tracks? Personally, I think there are some great tunes there and I have mentioned Gareth Gates on at least one of my tracks posts.I loved No Mercy and Steps and they bring back some great memories for me too.
