How We Will Be Treating Dad On Father’s Day

Father’s Day is the one day of the year where the boys spoil Matthew and when I say spoil I don’t mean with expensive gifts but they really go to town with making him feel special and loved (not that they don’t show this all year round but this is the day they really, really make the effort) Although Matthew will be working on Father’s Day this year the boys are still going to make the effort and make the time that they spend with their dad special. Here are a few of the things they are planning (with a little help from me) to do for/with him.

A bacon sandwich on white bread

Make him breakfast – The only way to start your special day is with your favourite breakfast and on Sunday Matthew will be starting his day with a bacon sandwich containing his favourite HP Sauce. According to Matthew, you can’t eat a bacon sandwich without a good dollop of HP Sauce and it would seem he isn’t alone in his thoughts as 28 million bottles are consumed every year. This is a huge amount of sauce – if the bottles were stacked on top of each other, they would reach the same height as 6,189 Houses of Parliament! With so many bottles of sauce being consumed it’s no surprise that HP sauce is the nation’s favourite brown sauce and since 1899 it has set the standard for quality. The uniquely distinctive sauce is the result of dedication to sourcing the highest quality ingredients and using a closely guarded secret recipe.

Let him watch his favourite TV programmes – As Matthew works long hours the sky box is chock full of his TV programmes, so this weekend we will let him watch whatever he wants and as he loves to watch programmes like Pawn Stars, Car SOS, Wheeler Dealers and anything that features fish – River Monsters is one of his favourites at the minute I’m sure he’ll have plenty to keep him entertained. The boys love to watch cartoons and Goosebumps whereas I like to watch game shows, X Factor, The Voice, all the soaps and Grey’s Anatomy (you know the good TV programmes) but these can wait for another day.

Buy him his favourite magazine and bar of chocolate – Matthew loves going fishing and when he gets spare time this is one of the things you will find him doing. But he doesn’t get as much time on the side of a lake as he’d like so, for the time being, he will have to make do with reading up on his techniques on how to catch more fish. We’ll even soften the blow with a bar or two of his favourite chocolate so that he has something to eat whilst he’s reading and I may even make him a cup of tea or two whilst he’s enjoying his reading.

Wash the cars – Although the boys can’t do this task on their own they will help me to clean both cars instead of Matthew having to do them – this will be the one and only time I will clean them though as I hate this job and would rather do anything else. The boys, on the other hand, love helping to clean the cars – it’s a shame the same can’t be said when I ask them to clean their bedrooms.

Treat him to his favourite dinner – When we go to the coast in a couple of weeks to see my Dad and Step Dad we will treat Matthew to fish and chips and maybe even an ice cream. This is one of his favourite meals and I’ll even queue for them too.

We can’t wait to spend the day treating Matthew and I know that next year when it’s Mother’s Day I will be treated to a day that’s all about me.

Will you be treating your Dad this Father’s Day?
