There are few things more enjoyable than a good garden summer party. You can enjoy the privacy and comfort of being in your home, soak up the sun and enjoy a few drinks and food with your nearest and dearest. In order to impress your guests, you will want to get your backyard prepared for a party.
Firstly, you will need to tidy the area. This will involve picking up any debris, mowing the lawn, trimming back the hedges and generally making sure that the area is neat, welcoming and ready for a group of people to spend time in.
Your guests will not want to spend the entire party on their feet, so it is important that you have high-quality and comfortable outdoor furniture so that they can relax. Places like Cox & Cox sell all kinds of great items, plus these will be items that you can use every summer. In addition to chairs and benches, you could also put blankets, pillows and bean bags out for people to relax on the grass.
You will also need tables so that people can put down their drinks and plates. It is wise to have a “head table” where the food and drinks are stored (ideally out of the sun), as well as a few other dotted around the backyard.
One way to keep food and drinks cool, as well as help people to escape the sun, is with a marquee. The summer weather can also be unreliable, so it will also provide shelter from the rain if the weather takes a turn for the worse.
In order to cut down on your work the next day and so that you aren’t finding beer bottles behind the bushes for years to come, have somewhere that your guests can dispose of their bottles and cans. You could place bin bags around the garden or have the recycling bin in an easy to find place.
If you want to keep the party going once the sun goes down, you will need some kind of outdoor lighting. There are many different types of outdoor lighting to consider, but you could also add style and intimacy with candles, coloured lanterns and/or fairy lights.
No party is complete without games, so consider buying a few fun lawn games that are suitable for both kids and adults to play.
With these steps, you will be ready to host the best garden party of the summer.
