We’ve really been spoilt with the lovely weather just lately don’t you think? I hope you are enjoying it as much as we are.
We always try to make the most of it when it’s nice especially on a weekend when Matthew isn’t at work – working nights means we hardly see him during the week as he is just getting ready for work as the boys are coming home from school. This weekend was no exception and we spent our time taking the dogs for walks and going to the park – next weekend it’s a trip to the seaside (I can’t wait!!).
When we go out for days out we like to take a snack and if we are going out for the day a picnic. If we are having a lazy day at home we will have a picnic lunch in the garden. One of my all time favourite snack / picnic foods is quiche. Ocado sell an amazing hand made Quiche Lorraine for £9.99 but at the minute it is priced at £7.46. Yes it is expensive but what I didn’t mention is that you get a whopping 1.2kg of quiche for your money. This is the perfect food for a party or a picnic or as a side to a lovely summer salad and it will last for a day or two in the fridge so you can just take what you want and leave the rest for another day. If you are heading out for a picnic then the Sistema Klip Containers are the perfect place to store your quiche and other food items such as sandwiches, fruit, sausage rolls etc. Currently on offer for £10.39 in stead of £12.99, the set contains 6 mixed sized containers (1 x 2L split, 1 x 1L split, 1 x 1L1 x 350ml & 2 x 200ml). They all have easy opening, seal tight lids and inner seals so that food stays fresher for longer. They are all lightweight. They are all dishwasher, microwave and freezer safe. The containers are also perfect for storing meat that has been opened. We like to take ham with us on our picnics with bread buns and crackers, that way we can decide what we want when we arrive. Ocado have a wide selection of hams to buy, we really liked the Air Dried Woodall’s Black Combe Ham. It was full of flavour and it tasted lovely with soft cheese on a cracker and the boys loved it in a sandwich too.
If you are enjoying the sun in your back garden what other way to end your picnic / day is there other than dessert. In summer my lot must go through a ton of ice cream and ice lollies each week www.ocado.com have a huge range available all year round – but don’t you think ice cream tastes so much better when the sun is shining? For those of you who like ice cream why not have a scoop or two of Lemon Sorbet, priced at £4.99 a tub Ice Cream Union Lemon Sorbet it perfect to enjoy as a refreshing summer treat and if Lemon isn’t your desired flavour they have plenty of others to choose from including my favourite Mint Choc Chip. For those who prefer their treat on a stick why not try a Creme Brulee Magnum Mini. A box of 6 is just £3.99 and perfect to share. If ice cream really isn’t your thing then how about Pots & Co Lemon & Lime Posset? You can eat this dessert on its own or with fruit. It has a really tart and tangy flavour but tastes ever so yummy with strawberries or blackberries – I even like it with grapes. What I love about this dessert is that it comes in a ceramic dish which can be reused.
I can’t wait for out picnic by the seaside this weekend and I will be sure to keep the sandwiches away from the sand – who wants to be eating a sand sandwich?? not me thats for sure.
