Burns Original Dog Food Review

In 1993 Burns Pet Nutrition Limited was formed and John Burns' range of premium quality Real Food for Pets was launched.  Burns Real Food for Dogs, Cats and Rabbits are simple foods which are intended to allow the body to function naturally.
Burns saw a gap in the market for a well made natural food for pets after repeatedly seeing the same pet health problems in his veterinary surgery. He soon realised that there must be a common factor and research rapidly indicated that poor quality diet was at fault.
Due to the lack of high quality diets available at the time he recommended that his clients fed home cooked food made to his recipes instead. The results showed significant improvements, but many of his customers found home cooking too scary or time consuming. This was when he decided to develop his own range of complete diets for dogs and cats.
We have had our Boxer dog Pepper since she was 8 weeks old, she is now almost 6. She is very much one of the family and I'm pretty certain she thinks shes a human too. She has no allergies that we know of, is of good health and we would very much like to keep it that way. One way we can help is by ensuring that she eats a good diet. However this has caused problems in the past as she has always been a very fussy eater, so when we were asked to review Burns Original Chicken and Brown Rice dog food I was slightly apprehensive as to whether or not she would eat it.
All of Burns pet foods are made from the highest quality ingredients and without any pharmacologically active supplements. The products aim to let the body get on with what it does best:  maintain and repair itself and prevent deterioration of the organ systems. The food we were sent has these ingredients in itBrown Rice (67%), Chicken Meal (20%), Oats, Peas, Chicken Oil, Sunflower Oil, Seaweed, Vitamins & Minerals.
Burns Original is hypo-allergenic, so it is suitable for dogs who are allergic to certain foods. It is made without ingredients such as wheat, soya, dairy, artificial colourings and artificial preservatives which are known to cause symptoms of food intolerance including itchy skin, digestive upset, excessive moulting, full anal glands and waxy ears - lets face it none of us pet owners want our furbabies to suffer especially when it could be sorted but simply changing the food that they eat.

You can purchase bags of food in 3 different sizes - 15kg, 7.5kg and 2kg. Prices start from £8.68 for a 2kg bag. We were sent a 7.5kg priced at £27.24. There are many different types of Burns food to suit different dogs needs and there is also different flavours too. Pepper weighs 28kg. She is on the large / heavy side for a Boxer bitch but has never been overweight, the pack guidelines said to feed a dog her size 200 - 300g a day. The one thing that I liked about the food is that the pieces were small and easy enough for Pepper to pick up and eat. It didn't have a nasty odour too it like some dry foods do when they are first opened.

Overall I was very happy with the Burns Original dog food. I would highly recommend it. I am pretty sure Pepper would too judging by the way it didn't stay in her bowl long.
