Say Cheese This Christmas With Castello

I love cheese and Christmas wouldn’t be the same in my house without it. I know this may sound slightly crazy but there is nothing like sitting down to watch a Christmas film with the boys and a piece of Christmas cake with a chunk of cheese or a plate of crackers with lots of cheeses to share with the boys. Recently I was sent some cheese from Castello and I couldn’t wait to give it a try.

Castello was founded over 50 years ago and inspired by cheese monger Rasmus Tholstrup and his unique philosophy around cheese making and discovering new ways of making unique cheese.
I was sent five varieties of cheese to try. These were Ticklers extra mature cheddar, Pineapple Halo, Creamy White, Creamy Blue and Danish Blue. When I opened up the parcel I found that each one had been wrapped in Christmas paper and put inside a personalised Christmas stocking. I loved this added touch.
Tickler Cheddar – This is an extra mature cheddar with a sweet, tangy taste. It is carefully matured for up to 18 months and made by expert cheese makers at the Taw Valley Creamery in Devon.

Creamy Blue – A unique double cream blue mould cheese, with a surprising combination of  creaminess and the flavour of blue mould. It was designed to give the softness of a Brie with the sharper taste of a blue cheese.

Traditional Danish Blue – Is the most powerful of the Castello cheeses, it is a full flavoured, salty blue mould cheese. Danish Blue was developed to get the taste of Roquefort in a cheese using cows milk (Roquefort is made with sheep’s milk).

Extra Creamy Danish Blue – The Extra Creamy has a softer texture and a slightly milder taste than the Traditional Danish Blue, which creates a more creamy and well rounded blue cheese, but still with a strong β€˜bite’.

Pineapple Halo – Castello Pineapple Halo combines soft cheese with small chunks of pineapple with chopped almonds and papaya. This gives a sweet pineapple flavour with notes of warm syrup.
I am not a huge fan of blue cheeses but was surprised how lovely the Castello cheeses were. They are the perfect accompaniment to any cracker. If like me you like a bit of cheese at Christmas then you really should try some of the varieties Castello have to offer. You can find these and others in Tesco, Adsa, Sainsburys and Waitrose.
